Roofing in Easton’s historic district
Easton’s Local Historic District is roughly the area bounded by the Delaware River, the Bushkill Creek, Sixth Street and the Lehigh River. Inside it, any exterior alteration you can see from a street, sidewalk or other public way needs a Certificate of Appropriateness. The district’s design guidelines accept replacing asphalt or fiberglass shingles with new ones that resemble them, but not “architectural” shingles made to look like wood or cedar shake. If your house is in the district, the city recommends calling its Department of Planning and Codes at 610-250-6724 before you sign a contract or buy materials.
